Day Skipper

This is the course content for the Theory element of the RYA Day Skipper certificate. While it is not essential to have the Theory certificate prior to undertaking the Practical course for either tidal or non tidal, to get the most from the Practical course it is advisable to have firstly gained the Theory certificate. The TeachMe Interactive CD for this subject is the same as used in the Correspondence Course and can be similarly used as a reference and teaching aid. To advance to this level it is a requirement that the student has obtained the Day Skipper qualification or has equivalent experience. Click here for more information and purchasing.
TeachMe Interactive,in their range of TeachMe to Sail products, provides both learning and reference CD’s. Course subjects range from first time sailors to Yachtmaster/Coastal Skipper Theory Correspondence Courses. The theory element of the Day Skipper and Yachtmaster Courses can be taken in a classroom environment at sailing schools or at evening classes as well as by distance learning correspondence courses. All three methods have their advantages. TeachMe to Sail Correspondence Courses are cost effective, allowing study at your own pace and access to an RYA accredited tutor as part of the package.

The Theory Courses are appropriate for both tidal and non-tidal and the Day Skipper covers both Sail and Motor. Our courses also come with the added bonus of a guarantee of passing, if you put in the work. Our tutors will stay the course with you until you succeed.
The RYA Day Skipper Theory Correspondence Course uses the TeachMe to Sail CD and includes all the manuals, student pack and equipment necessary for the subject. The cost of the Course includes a designated RYA qualified Tutor, the cost of the examination and fees. A fuller description and syllabus is displayed later on the website. The Practical element of the qualification entails a minimum of 5 days aboard, 4 nights sailing and 100 logged miles, in tidal waters for the Tidal course. This certificate is also acceptable to obtain an International Certificate of Competence, a requirement for many European waters. For inland waterways a CEVNI certificate is necessary. The RYA Yachtmaster/Coastal Skipper Theory Correspondence Course again uses the TeachMe to Sail CD and includes the manuals and student pack for the Course. The cost of the Course includes the designated Tutor, the cost of the examination and fees. A fuller description and syllabus is shown on the website. This certificate of shorebased Theory is necessary for the Practical Course. However, should the student have the equivalent standard of knowledge this can be taken into account.The Practical Course has a minimum requirement of 15 days on board, with 2 days acting as Skipper. The trip distance is at least 300 miles logged with some 8 hours of night sailing.
The TeachMe to Fly products offer 2 CD’s which have been created to provide the knowledge required to prepare for the examinations in both Fixed Wing and Micro light PPL categories. The content gathers together, from many sources, the knowledge that would otherwise have to be found in a range of books.
The approach is to enable the student through information, photos, video, sound and animation to study the subject with the benefit of over 1000 Questions and Answers in a multiple format similar to the PPL exams.
This edition is specifically to assist in the acquiring the knowledge for the PPL examination for Microlight aircraft and is created in the same user friendly manner as the Fixed Wing edition.
